"I totally agree with all the positive comments and won't reiterate. Must comment on my new accessories though. The Silver Anniversary gift of the TV Connector has transformed my enjoyment of TV dramas and films. The device provides a wonderful balanced sound and is vastly superior to my previous TV Link which was good but amplified distracting background sounds/music as well as speech I wanted to hear; this got very wearing after a while. Really love the natural sound produced by the new device, so easy on the ear. I'm also using the Multi Mic accessory mainly to save my husband having to speak louder than he'd like in restaurants/theatres and it's working well. Also, I've found it really helps when I'm in the back of a car and trying to join the conversation with the front passengers. By placing the mic between the front seats I can hear what's being said very well. Quite a versatile little device, will continue to experiment with it. Congrats Colin on your anniversary! I'm very glad you do what you do!"
Although it isn't obvious from the review, the customer eventually decided to upgrade to two more accessory devices on top of her TV Connector. The customer has been a longstanding client and in the recent past, it became obvious that there were certain areas of her life that she still found difficult with her hearing aids.
I knew that the new hearing aids would make a difference, however, I spoke to her about the accessories and agreed to allow her to try them out over an extended period to ascertain if the devices could help. She tried a couple but was set on the Multi-Mic and the Phone-Clip on top of the TV-Connector for very specific reasons.
The Multi-Mic really helped her out in situations that she found difficult such as a restaurant, and as a passenger in a car. The Multi-Mic is a very versatile device which can be used as both a remote microphone where a companion clips it to them and a desktop mic which can be used in the centre of a table to help you hear several people better.
The device automatically knows what it is supposed to be doing and uses the microphones in different ways to help you better hear speech in a complex sound environment. It can also be used to stream audio to your hearing aids via a simple headphone jack and finally, it will connect to a Loop system in any public building acting as a Telecoil which can then stream audio from the loop.
While her ReSound One devices will connect to both Apple and Android devices directly, her tablet is an older device which will not work with the Ones. So she chose the Phone-Clip to allow her to stream audio and calls from her tablet which is important to her. Finally, the TV-Connector worked exceptionally well for her, giving her a much better experience than the older one she was using.
It has reminded me that these devices have a part to play for people who just want to hear better. While modern hearing aids deliver excellent support, we are dealing with a damaged auditory system. In some complex environments like noisy situations, people need all the support they can get to hear what they want to hear. Sometimes, accessory devices are the answer.
Even with the TV, her new TV-Connector just makes it a better experience for her. I feel like it is a learning experience for me, I know that accessory devices help, but knowing, and knowing are different things. I think moving forward I would be much more willing to help customers to assess them for themselves as a matter of course, so they can decide if they might be a worthwhile addition for them.
